Statement of Faith [ Back to top ]

The Art of Family Living uses the following to express its faith:

The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.

In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Advocate.

That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner and indwell, seal, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

That man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

That the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe and only such as receive Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God.

That Water Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances to be observed by the Church during this present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means of salvation.

That the true Church is composed of all such persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the head. We also believe that the local church is the primary expression of the ministry of Christ on earth.

That the family is a divine institution ordained by God from the beginning of time when Eve was created out from the side of Adam as his wife and the mother-to-be of his children. We further believe that the complete paradigm for family life and living is found solely in the Bible.

In the personal and premillennial and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this "Blessed Hope" has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

In the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.

History [ Back to top ]

Dallas Theological Seminary professor, Dr. Howard G. Hendricks, encouraged his students to use technology to communicate God's Word. One of the students, John W. Nieder, heard the challenge and was lead to join his professor in a radio broadcast ministry that would become, The Art of Family Living.

On February 4, 1980, the ministry of the Art of Family Living began broadcasting over seventeen radio stations. Several of Dr. Howard G. Hendricks' friends united to undergird the operation. The original staff consisted of John W. Nieder, who was trying to finish his thesis for a Master of Theology degree. The ministry's first office was the student's small, cluttered garage. Today, the ministriy's fifteen-minute broadcast blankets the country and is heard daily by a listening audience of over one million people.

Ministry Statement or Response [ Back to top ]

This organization has not offered MinistryWatch.com with an official statement or response for their profile. This area is meant as a mechanism for the profiled ministry to communicate anything they may choose. It is open ended as to the topic, issues, facts or news to address. It is not negative if there is no official statement as many don’t have anything to add than what is already on the profile. This section is not tied to transparency or to communication in general. Many very open and talkative ministries with us choose not to post an official statement. This section is just an open ended offering to the profiled ministry for anything extra to say as they may choose.
